Ceylon Jungle Fowl




Ceylon Jungle Fowl (Gallus lafayettii), is the national bird of Sri Lanka and endemic to the island, In Sinhala it is known as වළි කුකුළා (Wali-Kukula). Male has orange red body plumage with dark purple to black wings.It’s has bare red skin and wattles. The comb is red with a yellow centre. The female is much smaller with dull brown plumage. I captured this at sober Island, Trincomalee. The top picture is of a matured male and the bottom one is of a immature  male. 

Ceylon Jungle Fowl is the national bird of Sri Lanka.
