Black Crowned Night Heron :- One of the largest of the native waterbirds is the aukuu or Black Crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax hoactli). The subspecies in Hawaii is indigenous to the Hawaiian Islands. Unlike the other subspecies which are active mostly at night, the subspecies in Hawaii is active during the day.
