Crested Hawk Eagle, (Spizaetus cirrhatus) an endemic
sub species resident in Sri Lanka. This slender large to medium size raptor has
a brown upper part and white under part. Neck area has brown streaks. Sexes are
similar, but the male is smaller than the female. It has a crest of four
feathers. The bird swoops down forcefully, strikes, and bears the prey away in
its talons. It builds a stick nest in a tree and lays a single egg.
